Parliamentary History
Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy July 24, 2019 to February 13, 2020. Leader of the House of Commons, and Lord President of the Council, June 11, 2017 - May 22, 2019. Awarded DBE in 2021 Birthday Honours.

Noteworthy Contributions by Dame Andrea Leadsom

July 14, 2020 | Matt Hancock | Andrea Leadsom
Andrea Leadsom asks Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock about social distancing guidelines following an announcement that face coverings will be required in shops and supermarkets starting July 24, 2020. She misses what seems to be an obvious difference between a wedding and restaurant outing; at a wedding, the guests are expected to interact with each other, while at a restaurant guests typically want little, if any, interaction with their neighbors. Since social distancing does not make either setting entirely safe, the difference in the government's guidance reflects the likelihood of infection as a function of the number of different interaction-pairs that are likely to occur.

March 4, 2020 | Andrea Leadsom
Andrea Leadsom makes a personal statement following her departure from Prime Minister Boris Johnson's cabinet.

March 18, 2019 | John Bercow | Andrea Leadsom | Matthew Offord
Leader of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom expresses doubt about Speaker John Bercow's ability to chair a reforming Speaker's Conference.

February 7, 2019 | John Bercow | Andrea Leadsom | Pete Wishart
Leader of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom bristles at a clarification by Speaker John Bercow, interpreting his statement to the House as an attempt to undermine her (Part 2 of 2).

January 22, 2019 | John Bercow | Andrea Leadsom | Charles Walker
Charles Walker thanks the members of the procedure committee for their work in facilitating the introduction of proxy voting for MPs on baby leave, and encourages Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom and Speaker John Bercow to continue to work harmoniously in the future.

January 17, 2019 | John Bercow | Andrea Leadsom
Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom wishes Speaker John Bercow a happy birthday. Exchanges between them, in the past, have been contentious, but on this occasion Leadsom extends her warm wishes with well-placed, self-deprecating humor.
