UPDATED: Theresa May Resigns, Leadership Contest Begins... (Posted June 25, 2019)

Prime Minister Theresa May has announced her resignation as leader of the Conservative Party, effective June 7, and as Prime Minister effective upon the election of a new party leader.

According to Sky News, the Conservative Party changed the rules for inclusion on the ballot in response to the growth of the field of candidates to thirteen. Before the change was agreed June 4, MPs needed the support of only two MP's to be eligible to appear on the ballot. Under the new rules, candidates will need the support of at least eight colleagues. Once voting begins on June 13, candidates with less than 5% of the first round vote will be eliminated from the race (previously, only the candidate receiving the fewest votes was eliminated). In the second round (June 18), candidates receiving less than 10% of the vote will be eliminated. If more than two candidates remain after two rounds, the candidate with the fewest votes after each additional round of voting will be eliminated. The Conservative Party membership as a whole will choose between the two candidates left standing.

Boris Johnson wins with 92,153 votes to Jeremy Hunt's 46,656 votes.
