Esther McVey: Underrated (Posted November 6, 2018)

Secretary of State for the Department for Work and Pensions Esther McVey has been working especially hard of late. The DWP was called to the dispatch box each sitting day of the week Oct 15 – 18, and McVey appeared again on Monday Nov. 5 to give the House another update on Universal Credit.

If not for Brexit, it seems likely that Universal Credit would be the Conservative government's landmark legislation. The economic and political impact of the policy, and the fortitude, preparedness, and flexibility with which McVey has handled parliamentary scrutiny of it, attest to the Secretary of State's importance to government as a parliamentarian.
